Mahogany Falcon Sculpture

Fascinated with the beauty of a Falcon ready to pounce on flight, the idea of the wooden sculpture came to life. Sculpted from a single piece of a 6 meter Mahogany root wood from Bali, Indonesia, it has been intricately designed, embellished and crafted with Bronze head, feet and tail, bringing this magnificent Falcon to life. 
 
Mahogany has been synonymous with luxury since English furniture makers who made it their wood of choice in the late 1700s. Its easy workability made it ideal for the hand tools of the day, and perfect for the ornate carvings adorning their high-end furniture. And its rich, pink-tinged tan color that darkened to a deep, lustrous red secured its dominion as the "Wood of Kings." Mahogany also resists wood rot, making it attractive for boat construction for hundreds of years. It is a tone wood, also used for musical instruments, particularly the backs, sides and necks of guitars and drum shells because of its ability to produce a very deep, warm tone. Eagle conveys the powers and messages of the spirit; it is man's connection to the divine because it flies higher than any other bird. The eagle brings the message of renewed life because it is associated with the east winds - the direction of spring, dawn and rebirth. This labour intensive piece is a work of art that have been put together by skilled craftsmen who have preserved the knowledge of traditional craft techniques. After sourcing the wood, the prototyping, designing and final finishing took approximately 180 days complete with a total of 19 craftsmen involved in the process.
