This exquisite necklace showcases a brilliant round-cut diamond strand elegantly set in 18K gold, featuring a graceful dangling Burmese South Sea pearl. Below, a tassel crafted from old Japanese cultured Mikimoto pearls (Akoya) adds a touch of timeless elegance to the piece.
The Old Japanese Cultured Pearls are Akoya that are perfectly round in shape and have excellent bright mirror-like luster. Due to their seamless round shapes and consistency in colour these pearls have a reputation for perfectly matching difficult designs and the strands have no variation from pearl to pearl throughout the piece. The vast majority of the world's akoya pearls are produced in Japan, which is the undisputed akoya pearl producing center of the world. The evolution of the Japanese cultured Pearls took over a hundred of years of trials and errors, before three Japanese men invented a technique for producing them at the beginning of the 20th century. One of the inventors was a teenage carpenter named Tatsuhei Mise, another was government marine biologist at Tokyo University named Tokichi Nishikawa and the third was Kokichi Mikimoto.Â
